Kennedy Scholarship : Harvard University Scholarship
Kennedy Scholarship is a best academic for study at world’s best universities MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Harvard. It provides scholarship for ten to twelve British graduate and post graduate students for studying at both universities. The scholarship program was described by sixteenth President of MIT for exceptional student’s unique opportunities to broaden their intellectual and personal horizons.
The scholarship is generally tenable for one year, but scholars preparing on a two year Masters Degree programme will get help in the second year. Generally six to eight Scholarships are awarded in every year.
Kennedy Scholarship pays for:
- Tuition and health insurance fees (which are paid by the Trust direct to Harvard or MIT).
- A stipend which will cover living costs – in 2009 this is $22,000.
- One return air fare from the UK to Boston and back.
- A travel grant of $2,000 to enable Scholars to do some traveling within the US at the end of the academic year.
Eligible criteria:
At the time of the applications, Applicants must be British citizens and also ordinarily resident in the U.K. They must have attended a secondary school in the UK and required to be graduated before taking up their scholarship.
How to apply:
If you want to apply for Kennedy Scholarship, then take application form at kentrust site. Complete an application form and write an account (which must not exceed 1,000 words) describing your academic pursuits, general activities, intellectual interests, plans for the future and reasons for wishing to study at Harvard or MIT. Make 7 copies of all this material.
Completed applications must be lodged with the Head of the Scholarships and Student Finance Office, Old College, South Bridge by the closing date of 20th October 2009.
How’s your application assessed?
Applications are read and evaluated by a group of Trustees. Approximately 28 candidates are called for interview. And they choose only six eligible candidates (3 women and 3 men) by following considerations:
- Intellectual ability
- Personal and communication skills
- Wider interests and attainments
- The focus and value of the candidate’s proposed study at Harvard or MIT
- Capacity for future influence and leadership.
