I am a recent Graduate student enrolled into one of your educational programs. I am not feeling very good about the adminirstrative support that I have not been receiving.I have two sons who have recently graduated from college, Lynchburg college and EPCI. I have two more children in college Virginia State University and one in Virginia Beach.
Money doesn’t fall trees for education and sacrifices have to be made. I was informed that your institution has a policy that supercede a federal holiday for institutional financial usesage of Bookstore funding. In other words you don’t use you lose. I found this not to be true from the bookstore staff and the technology support sending the message when I tried to order my book that are essential to be successful at your institution.
My financial counselor had not returned my calls or email during the first week of class so I spoke to her coworker and supervisor. She explained to me it was a very busy week and she would pass on my conerns also that she would set up a book loan for me a the bookstore, but I had to wait 24 hours to activate the account My professor was getting frantic emails from other students as from me concerning course requirements and not having the needed materials to complete the task ie a book. I was informed latter by my university recruiter that was a mute point due to a Grand Canyon policy that stated,”once a book loan was set up and not used 4 days after the class started,i t would be voided” also it should be requested from the financial counselor not the supervisor and their was nothing I could do about it.
I called the tech department and the bookstore to confirm, they had no glue only to say that my student ID was valid and no money was ever deposited for me to establish a bookstore account at your university. I was informed that I could borrow the book from a local university if they had it or scrape some money togather or barrow some and buy the book or the first chapter from a web page that did it at a low cost.
I have been to my local veterans counselor for financial assistance. I was informed the loans and grant money I put in for was my life line. This was the same information given to my children in the past and presently in school as I am now. They got money for books and supplies but they were not in an online university. The only other comforting remarks I received by email was I my get the funds soon.
I was informed during my tutorial the day of class that the ebook was not availibe, I emailed my financial counselor the next day to alert her I needed a book. She had called me and left a message the day of and during my class while in session but never returned my email message or telephone calls until a week later due to the high case load and the holiday break, which was explained to me was the university policy of the fourth day use or lose on a federal holiday.
I could have used my military grant given to me for my bookstore credit ad the university gotten the money back from the loans and grant that I applied for and receive notice you university would be receiving, wereby copies of such proof was sent to your financial representative. You may have gotten stiffed in the past with a promise to pay,but I sent written proof from the federal goverment. I don’t blame your staff they were only following orders policies and the university procedures. One of those policies as explained to me if I drop the second week I would have to pay back a 100 percent for a class that I was ill prepared for because the bank had not made their deposit into the university’s account yet. I thought I was a war Veteran, Who am I?
Thank You for allowing me to be part of your institution.
Regardless of your age and location, you can definitely obtain a bachelors degree online. There is much convenience in studying online. You do not have to travel to the campus because your studies are accessible anywhere. You do not have to go elsewhere just so you could take up the course of your choice. You can be on the other end of the country or half a world away and still be able to earn that degree.
Hey, I just forwarded this to some friends, loving it!
Thanks
Just a quick question, first off great post. Also, do you guys offer guest writing positions?
The beginning weeks of online courses have proven to be a bit shaky but with time I think it is worth the effort. If you are having problems Jim a counselor with the VA section there is always quite helpful. I think staying on top of it requires logging into your course each day and observing the areas that need attending to. Dont be afraid to poke around on the site, it actually helps to be curious. Talk and talk somemore to financial aid and others who you need help from. They are busy but you can get what you need by being the squeeeky wheel. Hope that helps.
