Christoph Waltz wins best supporting actor for ‘Inglourious Basterds’ : Oscar 2010

At 82nd Oscar’s ceremony Christoph Waltz won the best supporting actor award for his role as a Nazi in ‘Inglourious Basterds,’ beating out Matt Damon, Woody Harrelson , Christopher Plummer and Stanley Tucci. Before his role in director Quentin Tarantino’s harsh World War Two motion picture, the Austin Actor was mostly unknown by US audiences, but his strong performance became the charm of Oscar.

Christoph Waltz wins best supporting actor for 'Inglourious Basterds' : Oscar 2010

The 53 years old Waltz performs the clever Colonel Hans Landa, who is known as “The Jew Hunter” in addition to is the most important bad character besides, for sure, from Adolf Hitler. Landa is an act of bad police officer who discovers Jews taking over from the Nazi war mechanism. The best supporting actor award was presented by the Penelope Cruz, who was wearing a floor-length wine-coloured gown. It was one of the first awards of the night.

Christoph Waltz also won the best actor award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and swept several critics’ awards circuits, namely the New York Film Critics Circle, Boston Society of Film Critics and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. And recently he won best supporting actor award at Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Christoph Waltz comes from theater artists families. He started his career as a stage performer and later on television. In 1998, first time he played biggest role in German film “Love Scenes from Planet Earth, in which he played a depressed writer character who gets involved with two women after borrowing his father’s new car.
