About Cochin Haneefa
Cochin Haneefa Aka Salim Ahmed Ghoush (22 April 1951 – 2 February 2010) was born in Kochi. In the 1970’s, he started his career as a villain and turned to be one of most the well-liked comedians of Malayalam film industry.
Cochin Haneefa movies
Haneefa made his debut in Malayalam films, in a small role in the film ‘Ashtavakran’ in 1979. Afterwards he went on to many diverse characters not only in Malayalam but also Tamil.
He directed films like Oru Sandesham Koodi, Moonnu Masangalkku Munpu, Aankiliyude Tharattu and Bheeshmacharya. Valsalyam, scripted by Lohitadas and starring Mammootty remains his best work.
He fist come into Tamil industry as a director and directed movies such as Paasa Paravigal, Paadatha Thenikkal, Paasa Mazhai, Pagalil Pournami, Pillai Pasam, and Vasaliley Oru Vennila among 1988 and 1991. His last release was ‘Bodyguard’ in Malayalam.

Cochin Haneefa was in serious situation in Chennai private hospital due to kidney and liver problems since long time so he was admitted there. Later he was died in the hospital. He will be very much missed by his fans. At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Fasila and twin children Safa and Marwa.
Cochin Haneefa was laid to rest with full State honours at the Central Juma Masjid in Chennai on Wednesday.
The body was brought in the morning on yesterday to his ancestral home at Pulleppady, where his family members, relatives, colleagues, a range of political and cultural leaders and fans had been waiting patiently since long. It was shifted to the Ambedkar Stadium, after keeping the body there for about 3 hours.
His body was kept from 2 to 4 p.m earlier at Ambedkar Stadium Ground to enable the public to pay their last respects to their beloved actor. Thousands of his fans, young and old, women and children, descended on the stadium in droves to have a last glimpse of their dear Haneefa.
His colleagues from filmdom offered the Namaz-e-Mayyit (last ritual) at the Ambedkar Stadium, before taking the body to the Central Juma Masjid. The prayer was led by actor Sidhique.
Along with almost all the other actors and technicians, the Malayalam cinema industry, represented by actors Mammootty, Mohanlal, Innocent, Dileep, Jayaram, Mala Aravindan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Kavya Madhavan, Bhavana and directors Joshy, Fazil, Sidhique, Kamal, Renji Panikker, queued up to pay their homage to the veteran of hundreds of movies.
The procession was reached to the Central Juma Masjid nearly at 5 p.m. where the burial was held. A State honor was given to the departed soul just prior to that, with the police firing three rounds in the air.
