Duke Of Wellington Statue Photos

The colossal Wellington Statue stands in the area of Aldershot Military Camp, which is a memorial to Arthur Wellesley, first Duke of Wellington, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and victor at the Battle of Waterloo. Duke of Wellington Statue is famous as “The Home of the British Army“, and symbolizes the accomplishments of the Army in the defense of the United Kingdom and Aldershot’s arrogance in its military inheritance.

The Wellington Statue goes rear to 1844, it is said to be cast in the metal of detained French guns. The statue was sculptured by Matthew Cotes Wyatt, in 1846 when it was disclosed at its original location at Hyde Park Corner, it was the largest equestrian statue in Britain.

Origin of the statue:

When different monuments to the British victory were being made, such as Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square and the victory arch at Hyde Park Corner, the origins of the statue go back to the end of the Napoleonic Wars. A committee was created under the Chairmanship of the Duke of Rutland to hoist sufficient funds for a memorial the first Duke of Wellington, to Arthur Wellesley in 1937. A highly controversial choice sculptor was Matthew Cotes Wyatt at that time.

The ultimate statue had become of 30 feet high, 26 feet from nose to tail, 21 feet in girth and weighed 40 tons. The statue has become as a landmark and its funnel have attributed in tourist guidebooks. For more information see here.
