Jordan Romero is from big bear, California. 13 year old Jordon Romero is a son of the Paul, and stepmother Karen, who are an experienced adventure racer and mountaineer. Recently he has headed to Mount Everest to become the youngest person to climb both Everest and the Seven Summits.
Everest Seeker Jordan Romer became the youngest American to scale Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro at the age of 10 and since then he has ticked off four of the world’s highest peaks. On Saturday, he was busy with his father and stepmother for packing mountaineering gear and scheduling details of their journey with three Sherpa guides who will escort them.
Jordan Romero wants to break the record which set by a 16-year-old Nepalese boy Temba Tsheri, who lost five fingers to frostbite during his climb. On Sunday, the team left Katmandu, Nepal’s capital, for China and then they will travel to the base camp on the Chinese side of the 29,035-foot (8,850-meter) mountain.
Jordan Romer has already climbed the highest mountains on six other continents. He and his folks climbed 19,340-foot Kilimanjaro (Africa), 7,310-foot Mount Kosciusko (Australia), and 18,510-foot Mount Elbrus (Europe) at age of 10. At age 11, he set the age record on 22,834-foot Aconcagua (South America) and climbed 20,320-foot Denali (North America). Last year, he climbed Indonesia’s 16,023-foot Carstensz Pyramid, the highest point in Oceania and the supposed “eighth” summit.
About his journey, Jordan said he would not take any unnecessary risks and move around if they meet problems like bad weather. He said he read about past disasters on the mountain that have claimed many lives and learned lessons from them.
He said, “This may be the first of many attempts. It could take a couple of years, but I am determined to do it. If I don’t reach the summit this time, I will try next time.” He also said, “”I do feel ready. I feel very prepared emotionally, and definitely physically.”
Motto of Jordan is Ad alta (‘To the summit’), captures the spirit of his journey…The importance of setting and reaching goals, living an active and healthy lifestyle, and being a wholesome role model for other kids are key elements to his quest.”
