Hippies were a result of the youth movement that was anticonformist in the American society in mid- 1960’s. They mainly consisted of white youths ranging from ages of 15-25. If you are a very fashion conscious person you need to stick to certain current trends while making your own hippie clothes but if you are a daredevil who can sport anything and everything not caring much about the society you can go ahead and be as funky as you can be.
Jeans were essentially the pants that hippies sported because they were highly durable during their various camping and trekking trips. You can transform an old pair of jeans at home which you have frequently used and got bored of, into a hip and happening pair of hippie style jeans. All you have to do is slit it a little less farther than half the length of your pants and add some colorful fabric of your choice that forms a triangle at the side of your jeans. You can also add patches of different clothing to this apron top that compliments and enhances the look of the top. Stick or stitch some beads at the top edge it gives it the chique look.
Making a hemp necklace at home by mixing and matching different beads easily available from the market or from some old worn out earrings that might be broken. A wild variety of ideas can be used to make a necklace, you do not need to possess high creativity skills, just a little imagination and good choice of color combinations would do the magic. Create side panels in your pants, patch it with some colorful straps of some old clothing or with some stones and beads. Make A-line skirts or wrap around skirts with straps fitted to be tied around the on your own. This one is really easy to make since you only have to hem the edges. Take a white t-shirt of any fabric or soft garment and randomly dye it with colors of your choice using squirt bottles tie die kits that are easily available. You can add appliqué patches to your existing clothes. Appliqué patches are when you combine colorful patches from different clothes artistically combined to form a design of their own. Another typical hippie trend is to sport the bandana. This can be easily done using a larger scarf of a material that suits the weather conditions of your location.
