Kristen Blair crowned as Miss Texas Pageant 2009

Kristen Blair, just 22 years old preliminary talent winner, became the new Miss Texas Pageant 2009 on Friday July 3 at the University of Texas at Arlington. Along with her title, Blair wins a $ 12,000 scholarship. Miss Texas was crowned about 11:30 p.m. at night. First runner-up to Miss Texas was Miss Carrollton, Danae Couch.

There were 36 contestants participated for Miss Texas. The new Miss Texas wore a powder blue evening gown when she was crowned Miss Texas by outgoing Miss Texas, Rebecca Robinson. Blair told that her hobbies are traveling, music and spending time with family and friends. Now Kristen Blair will participate for the title of Miss America at the Miss America Pageant on January 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The executive director of the Miss Southlake Pageant, Heather Edwards Bruce told that Blair graduated from high school in the state of Washington before entering the University of North Texas.

Taylor Lowery, just 16 years old was crowned as Miss Teen Texas. She was a runner-up in last year’s contest when she competed as Miss Teen Plano. She represented Frisco at this year’s contest.

Friday’s pageant was dedicated to the late B. Don Magness. Magness, as he was associated with the Miss Texas organization for a long period, died last July. Jean Magness, his widow wife serves as CEO and executive director of the pageant.

The details of Kristen Blair are as follow:

1. Platform: Building a Stronger arts community

2. Talent: Classical and musical Theatre Vocalist

3. Education: Richland High School and Columbia Basin College

4. Career Ambition: Pursue a career in performing arts; direct a children’s theatre. Major Vocal performance; Minor Elementary Education

5. Scholastic Honors: She has got several numbers of Scholastic Honors. Among them some are as follows: Best Supporting Actress (2004); Voted “Most Creative” by the 2004 Richland High School graduating class. Drama Club: Best Actress (2002 &2003), Best Soloist (2002 & 2003), Best Sophomore Actress (2002) and many other honors.

6. Accomplishments: 9 years of private voice lessons; 3 years of piano and dance lessons. She performed over 25 community theatre productions and she won 8 Gold medals and 2 Silver medals from Music Fest Northwest (2002-2004)

7. Interesting Facts: Kristen loves Disney movies, Harry Potter, exercise, and her black-and-white cat, Sebastien. She was born in Texas, but lived in Kentucky, Michigan, and Tennessee before moving to Richland.

8. Leadership roles: Member of the Washington State Arts Alliance; Member of Richland High School Executive Council (2003-2004); Counselor at the Northwest Acting Experience (Summer 2005)

9. Legacy: She dreams of having the same impact on the community that the arts have made in her own life

10. Platform Mission: As Miss Tri-Cities, Kristen will implement her cause by focusing on three main “Arts Initiatives”: 1) Increasing public support and funding for non-profit arts organizations; 2) Uniting local art organizations into one arts community; 3) Soliciting state recognition and funding for our arts community.
