Lollapalooza 2010 lineup has been released after teases all last week. Lollapalooza 2010 will be held from 6 August to 8 August in Grant Park, Chicago. Passes for three days festivals are now on sale at Lollapalooza.com for $215. In the 2010 festival, you will see an especially eclectic group of electro-dance pop, current indie-rock mainstays and some acts that are old enough to remember original early-1990’s incarnation of the festival.
The heavily rumored headliners were certainly confirmed and include reunited grungers Soundgarden, eyeliner-punks Green Day, new-millennium-madonna Lady GaGa, epic indie-soul rockers Arcade Fire, New York garage revivalists The Strokes and French pop-machine Phoenix. Other notable acts include MGMT, Spoon, The Black Keys, Social Distortion, Devo, Cypress Hill, Girzzly Bear, Erykah Badu, Dirty Projectors, The xx and Mavis Staples.
The 10 most intriguing Lollapalooza acts:
Lady Gaga: Controversial choice, some see her as a repudiation of everything Lollapalooza once stood for. However, she has built to provoke and surprise – something this festival could use more of, and given the scale of the headlining slot, she is going to do it up big.
Yeasayer: The anthems from their latest album, “Odd Blood,” should sound fantastic in the great outdoors. This Brooklyn quintet is my early pick as the band that will gain the most new followers on Lolla weekend.
Arcade Fire: In 2005, the Montreal band made one of their first big impressions on a blazing hot Lollapalooza stage. Now with songs for their third album in tow, they are back.
MGMT: The group’s new album, “Congratulations,” is shaping up as a major leap forward from its thin debut. Will the live show follow suit?
Mavis Staples: The Chicago soul matriarch is working on a new studio album with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. Could we see an on-stage collaboration?
The Strokes: The New York quintet has not been heard from since 2006. This show could provide a preview of what’s next.
Devo: The Ohio avant-rock band occupies the slot held by Lou Reed and the Stooges in previous years – still-vital elder statesmen reminding the kids who paved the way for today’s musical contrarions.
Los Amigos Invisibles: The token South American act at Lolla is usually a good one and this year is no exception with this excellent Venezuelan acid-funk outfit.
Erykah Badu: As her recent soul- and body-baring “Window Seat” video demonstrates, the R&B singer can be as enchanting to watch as she is to hear. Her sultry music could match up well with the onset of dusk at Grant Park.
2ManyDJs: The original mash-up kings from Belgium, David and Stephen Dewaele, make a rare live appearance. Look for the Stooges “No Fun” to mix it up with Salt N’ Pepa’s “Push It”
