On 9th August, 2010 Singapore is going to be celebrated its 45th birthday. For National Day 2010, Singaporeans are called to ‘Live Our Dreams And Fly Our Flags’, which is the theme for National Day Parade (NDP) this year. The National Day Parade 2010 (NDP 2010) will be a national ceremony held at the Padang to celebrate Singapore’s 45th year of independence.
Colonel Lim hopes that Singaporeans can go beyond that by taking time to reflect up the nation’s achievements in 45 years, while flying the Singapore flag is a yearly act and how the nation had lifted itself repeatedly out of crisis. Colonel Benedict Lim, Chairman of NDP Executive Committee, said in a press statement yesterday: “2010 marks the 45th year of Singapore’s independence – a defining and significant milestone in the Singapore story.” In 2007, National Day Parade (NDP) was held in Marina Bay for the first time. It was decided that future parades will be held there until the new sports hub is completed in around 2014-2016. The 2010 Summer Youth Olympics opening will be held at Marina Bay, due to this reason the National Day Parade (NDP) of 2010 will be occurred at Padang.
National Day Parade Theme for 2010:
Think that someone standing by his window and saying the phrase ‘Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag’. The idea of the image came quickly to mind was that of someone wishing upon a shooting star which is in charge of branding NDP 2010 for the designers at FARM. I n this way the winning idea for NDP 2010′s logo was born. The five stars of the Singapore flag in their original ensemble are described by the logo. In the national flag, the shooting motion of the stars resembles the movement of the hemispherical moon. The use of brushstrokes gives it a light, elegant feel, and depicts a sense of flight, of aspirations and of hope. With this year’s theme, all elements of the Singapore flag are represented, and the logo also ties in neatly.
Chairman of the Executive Committee as well as Chief Armour Officer, Colonel Benedict Lim said, “It captures our collective hope for a better future and expresses our pride for the nation“, “Fly the flag in the literal sense of waving it at national events, and also in the figurative sense of being proud of Singapore, behaving in a manner that would do the country proud and showcasing Singapore to the world“.

The contestants will re-constitute and go on to a march around the Marina Bay area which symbolizes the march forward into the new Singapore. Firework would be a visual treat for Singaporeans as it will shoot off from nine different locations including commercial buildings other than the parade ground. The rooftop of City Hall and the Marina Bay waters, other firework points include The Esplanade, Suntec Tower, Pan Pacific Hotel, Ritz Carlton, UOB Tower and Maybank, all of which make for great vantage points for those who want to catch a glance of the fireworks besides the Padang fields.
Two-way telecast of the celebratory activities into five heartland locations, namely Choa Chu Kang, Woodlands, Bishan, Sengkang and Eunos will be introduced by the organisers to expand the NDP mood and participation into the heart of the city. At the Padang, this will allow audiences in the heartlands to interact and engage with the activities. The official website (www.ndp.org.sg) of NDP was launched by Colonel Lim in which information about National Day Parade 2010 is given. The homepage of the website is made up of a montage of photographs taken and sent in by regular Singaporeans. To give insider perspectives of NDP preparations, guest bloggers have also been invited.
