One man killed at Bull Running Pamplona 2009
Running of the Bulls is the nine days festival of San Fermin in Pamplona. This year the most famous bull-running festival turned out to be bloodier than usual as one man was killed and at least 11 others seriously injured during bull running.
The dead man was identified as 27 years old Jimeno Romero of Madrid who was killed on Friday the fourth day of the event. Then Emergency medical person rushed him to a local hospital where he underwent surgery but they were unable to save him as he badly injured in the neck and chest.
In this festival three other runners were also critically injured including a 61 years old American who suffered bleeding into his lung, a 20 years old Brit whose thigh was punctured and a 20 years old Argentine with unspecified injuries. And eight other people suffered serious injuries but did not require hospitalization.
More than 2000 people are regularly attend the festival from all over the world and 100 of people take part in bull running against the dozen bulls.
Jimeno Romero was the first person died at Pamplona since 1995 but in 2003, a Spanish man spent months in a coma after being trampled on the head by a bull and he later died. There were 15 people who have been killed since 1910 according to festival’s website.
Various Spanish animal right groups are tried to ban it not just for people but also for bulls. They believe that this event is “barbaric.”
