Senator Edward ‘Ted’ Kennedy died on last Tuesday 25th August, 2009 at age 77 a year long struggle with brain cancer. His funeral ceremony was held on Saturday evening August 29, 2009 at Boston Church and he was buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Robert F. Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Edward’s two slain brothers were also buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Sen. Edward M Kennedy buried alongside slain brothers John and Robert. Kennedy was the youngest and last surviving brother of a heralded Kennedy generation.
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy wrote a letter to Pope Benedict XVI before his death asking for the pontiff to pray for him as he struggled with an aggressive from of brain cancer, it was revealed at his graveside service Saturday evening. This letter was read by Cardinal Theodore McCarrick at the private burial ceremony in Arlington, Virginia.
Some quoting from Kennedy’s letter said “I am writing with deep humility to ask that you pray for me as my own health declines.” More than hundred people queued up in the hot sun to visit his grave on Saturday and a small group was already waiting since the cemetery opened at 8.
Burial service at dusk followed eulogy by President Barack Obama in Massachusetts and a short prayer service outside the U.S. Capitol and a parade through crowd-lined street in Washington’s streets. Many who had gathered on the Capitol was clearly emotional and wiped tears from their eyes.
In the funeral ceremony some held framed photos of Kennedy and many with American flags waved over a song of “America the Beautiful”. Read more information.
