The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, which was previously known as Weston State Hospital was operated by government of the U.S. state of West Virginia, in the city of Weston from 1864 until 1994 as a psychiatric hospital. In 2007, it was bought by Joe Jordan, and it was partly opened for tours and money raising events for its re-establishment. The main building of this hospital is largest hand-cut stone masonry buildings, known as a Weston Hospital Main Building. In 1990 it was elected as a National Historic Landmark.
The first thing of Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is the most visitors’ strike for its massive size. It was constructed from 1858 to 1881, and is considered as the largest hand-cut stone masonry building in North America and after the Kremlin, the second-largest in the world. Its main structure is 1,296 feet long, consists of 4 floors, 9 acres of floor space, 921 windows and 906 doors.
