Acid reflux occurs due to the abnormal functioning of the lower sphincter muscles which causes the liquid and semi-solid contents of the stomach regurgitate or refluxes back into the esophagus. Some acid and enzymes are used by the stomach to digest the food that person eats. Heartburn is caused by the liquid and the semi-solid content which contain some acid from the stomach, regurgitates or refluxes back up the food pipe and esophagus. Acid reflux is generally experienced at night as many persons eat heavy, oily and spicy food, and go to bed.
Instead of traveling to the small intestine for further digestion, the partly digested food in the stomach mixed with the acid and travels back into the esophagus. Due to overeating, oily and spicy food, and taking a nap immediately after eating, Acid Reflux can also occur during the day. Acid Reflux Regurgitation is the sensation that occurs when acid travels all the way up from the stomach, past both the lower and upper esophageal sphincters, into the mouth. To prevent Acid Reflux the person should also change its dietary habits and have smaller and frequent meals instead of larger ones. Remedies for Acid Regurgitation
Apple Cider Vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar has no side-effects. Taking 2-3 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with 8 oz of water is the easiest way to restrain acid reflux. You can take some honey along with this preparation to make this medicine less bitter.
Mix ½ teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and drink twice a day until acid reflux has dissipated.
For acid reflux, Aloe Vera is one more soothing natural medicine. Take it daily for 6-8 weeks, it acts immediately. Aloe Vera have all vitamins (except vitamin D), minerals and twenty-two amino acids. It also helps in digestion of food. Before 10-20 minutes of meals consume ¼th cup of aloe Vera and also it can be taken along with some non-acidic fruit juice.
Mint and Basil:
A decoction of basil and mint leaves has proved to be therapeutic for acid regurgitation.
Almonds can offer quick relief from an attack of acid reflux. Try to eat a small handful of raw, unsalted almonds before or after meal.
Ginger is effective for reducing acid reflux. In many forms ginger can be consumed such as ginger tea, candied ginger in tea, pickled ginger and raw ginger. Ginger is a tasty stomach tonic and cures many stomach ailments without any side-effects. Ginger tea can be prepared easily and having it twice a day, helps to keep the pH levels of the digestive system neutral.
Apples contain the same healthy enzymes as apple cider vinegar. Just snacking on an apple can help remedy the pain of acid reflux. Raw carrots and potatoes will also neutralize stomach acid.
Licorice Root Powder:
Due to acid reflux the esophagus lining may get damaged. To have a soothing effect on the esophagus, Licorice root powder is used. After having food LES (lower esophageal sphincter) muscles contract, so that acids and enzymes used for the digestion do not leak out to the esophagus and eventually, to the trachea. When you experience acid reflux these muscles relax. Licorice powder helps the LES muscles to contract, which lowers the chances of acid reflux.
