A condition of dry skin, dandruff effects the scalp. Itching of the scalp, a burning sensation on the scalp, and flaky skin falling from the scalp are the symptoms of dandruff. Dandruff is neither contagious nor the sign of a more serious disorder, but it can be annoying and embarrassing. Dandruff is a problem that everyone experience in their life. In the summer season, scalp become dry and dryness in the scalp can lead to dandruff. Dandruff is the excessive shedding of dead cells of the scalp.
The causes of dandruff are an imbalanced diet and constipation, use of a shampoo which is not suitable for your hair or excessive, and use of hair products like gels, mousses and styling sprays. They all can make hair unhealthy. The problem of dandruff is increased by stress, fatigue, pollution and exposure to cold weather. Main cause of dandruff is a very dry or a very oily scalp. Due to dandruff, One may feel shy to attend a social gathering if dandruff is highly visible or is accumulating on clothes and shoulders.
Effects of Dandruff

There are a few home remedies you can try and get rid from dandruff.
Coneflower and red clover extracts
A product of Aveda named “Scalp Remedy” is growing in popularity. Both coneflower and red clover extracts are included in it. It comes with a dropper and applied directly to the scalp after you shower.
Hawiian Tea Tree Leaves Tea tree oil:
Tea tree oil can be mixed into lotions, oils and shampoos due to its anti-fungal quality. Apply the mixture into the scalp and let it sit for 15 minutes prior to rinsing clean.
Vinegar rinses
Apply white or apple cider vinegar prior to bath it is successful remedy for dandruff. It may correct the PH balance of your hair.
Oil soaks
Massages Scalp with moisturizing oils for an hour or so before bathing are said to rejuvenate a dry scalp. Skin lotions will likely work as well.
Other Dandruff Home Remedies:
- For good hair without dandruff, drink at least 2 liter water. Combs must be washed and hair should be brushed regularly.
- Avoid or decrease your intake of fried foods, dairy products, sugar, chocolate and nuts.
- Strong tea, coffee and processed foods should be avoided while you are suffering dandruff.
- Mix 1 egg with 1 cup of yogurt and apply the mixture on the scalp. Leave it for ½ an hour and then wash it.
- Apply baby oil to the entire head in the evening, wrap your head with a towel and leave on until morning then shampoo. Use the baby oil daily until all dandruff is gone.
- People should avoid spicy and greasy food because it helps dandruff to increase and spread. People should add more vegetables and fruits on the diet. It is very essential to take fresh foods avoid taking tinned and canned foods add more green vegetables and fruits.
- Boil a mixture of 4-5 dried thyme and two cups of water for 10 minutes. When the mixture cools down, massage it on the scalp and leave it for ½ an hour. Then wash it and you will automatically see the results. You will now be having a dandruff-free head.
- Use two tablespoons of curd and mix with three drops of honey and three drops of lemon juice. Mix together and apply to the scalp, leave on for fifteen minutes, then scrub for fifteen minutes.
- You can also use aloe vera gel as a remedy for curing excess of dandruff. Apply the gel on your scalp 10-15 minutes before you plan to wash your hair. Regular use of the gel before shampooing will help you to get rid of dandruff.
- Apply the coconut oil to the scalp and scrub away the dead skin with a brush or fingernails. Next, either hold your head under a faucet of hot water or in the shower under hot water for fifteen minutes. You will have immediate results that will last up to six months or a year.
- Apply aloe vera gel 10-15 minutes before you wash your hair. Leave it on for about 10 minutes then shampoo your hair. Use this on a daily basis to keep dandruff away.
- Mix olive oil and almond oil together and apply to scalp and leave on for five minutes. Once it starts to tingle rinse and shampoo.
- Take half a cup of chickpea flour. Add to this a little curd and enough water to make a thick paste. Apply on the scalp and individual strands of hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse vigorously with warm water.
- Crush a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in about 5 tablespoons of warm coconut or olive oil. It would be better to boil them in the oil. Cool the mixture and apply generously all over the scalp. Leave it on for two hours. Rinse and wash off. This will helps to get rid of dandruff.
