KFC currently has introduced a new unique type of a sandwich known as the KFC Double Down sandwich. It is unique in a manner that the most essential part of a sandwich- the bun, is missing in this form of a sandwich. For the first time, in sandwich history, the Double Down Sandwich is one where the bun on the top and the bottom sides of the sandwich is replaced by KFC chicken. Its launch was much hyped because of its one-of-a-kind concept of no buns and meat-sandwiched-in-meat. It consists of two original recipe chicken fillets, bacon, Pepper jack cheese, Swiss cheese, Colonel’s sauce. At the launch of this uncommon sandwich was involved a promotion of donating the unused or unneeded buns to food banks.

Although this sandwich looks incredibly delicious and mouthwatering people are curious to know the whether or not it is a healthy choice for fast food. This is because the number of obese people is increasingly alarming and it is no rocket science for us to know that obesity leads to a plethora of health related issues. The major culprit for obesity is the consumption of huge quantities of junk food on a regular basis. So with a sandwich that seems like it has more than what any other sandwich offers it is an increasing concern to know whether it could cause some serious damage to your system.
While comparative studies have shown that it contains a reasonable amount of fat they have also shown that they are low in carbohydrates. Nutritional experts claim that it is loaded with proteins and it is every bodybuilder’s dream food. There are two varieties of the sandwich and each variety has some differences in the amount of fat, proteins and carbohydrates in them. These varieties are the Regular Double Down Sandwich and the Grilled Double Down Sandwich. The regular variety is slightly higher in the overall calories as compared to the grilled variety. The regular sandwich has 540 calories while the grilled one has 460 calories. This sandwich has adequate amount of energy for a person when it is the only thing he consumes in the whole day and this way there is zero amount of stored fat.
So here is the nutritional chart for the two Double Down sandwiches with reference to the KFC nutritional guide:

While it is a good thing that protein is packed in huge amounts in these sandwiches and they are low carb there is concern about the sodium levels. Some people might not be tolerant to that amount of sodium so you must be cautious before chewing down this gorgeous and tempting piece of sandwich. The sandwich was initially made available in two test markets – Rhode Island and Nebraska. Since it had been a huge hit in these places KFC finally extended their unique creation in the national market recently on April 12th 2010.
