The womb where a child is born consists of the internal female reproductive parts that constitute vital parts like the uterus, two ovaries, two fallopian tubes connecting the ovaries to the uterus and a cervix. In the event of a normal pregnancy, the ovaries synthesize the eggs and the egg passes through the fallopian tubes where it fuses with a sperm in a process called fertilization. This fertilized egg which is now called the embryo after about 4-5 days drops from the fallopian tube into the uterus (womb) and implants itself on the walls of the uterus. Gradually the embryo develops into a fetus and eventually forms the baby.

Since it is a biological process and every female has a different biological set up there are bound to happen certain unseen abnormalities that may hinder with the proper functioning of the normal pregnancy process. One such abnormality we are going to discuss now is Tubal pregnancy also commonly referred to as Ectopic pregnancy.
Tubal Pregnancy :
It derives its name from being characterized as the pregnancy that commences in one of the fallopian tubes. The embryo fails to drop into the uterus and instead it gets stuck in one of the fallopian tubes and starts developing there. On an average two percent of all normal pregnancies end up being tubal pregnancy. This pregnancy rarely ever sees successful childbirth instead it often leads to death of the mother due to huge losses of blood.
There are instances where the tube gets ruptured and causes internal bleeding. This state of pregnancy can only be detected between the fourth and the tenth week of pregnancy with the appropriate facilities found in developed nations. Most commonly it is caused due to some sort of prior damage to the fallopian tubes which resulted in the blockage or narrowing of the tubes thus providing lower chances for the embryo to pass through successfully. There are other causes like pelvic inflammatory disease that causes scarring of the fallopian tubes, tubal endometriosis, an abdominal surgery like removal of appendix or caesarian section, contraceptive coils fitted in the uterus that may prevent normal pregnancy but not tubal pregnancy, previous case of such pregnancy and finally, the chances are high if you are older than 35 years of age.
Recognizing the Signs and Symptoms of Tubal Pregnancy :
The major signs of tubal pregnancy are seen when you have the following symptoms:
- Pain in the lower abdomen and a strong stomach cramp with signs of inflammation.
- Vaginal bleeding that is commonly mistaken to be menses but is more of a dark watery fluid flowing out of the vagina.
- Discomfort while urinating; may be associated with pain.
- Pain in the bowel movements.
- Constant pain and discomfort.
- Due to internal bleeding associated with tubal pregnancies they show symptoms like lower back, abdominal or pelvic pain, cramping and tenderness in one side of the pelvis, pain in the shoulders which are caused due to the blood going up the abdominal cavity and irritating the diaphragm.
Most of these symptoms of tubal pregnancy coincide with the symptoms of other diseases like appendicitis, gastrointestinal disorder, problems in the urine excretory organs, pelvic inflammation and other gynecological problems. This can be treated in early stages with medicines but in cases of higher internal bleeding surgical procedures are practiced.

You must aware of treatment and tests like urinary ELISA testfor ectopic pregnancy.
