About Yasmin (Oral Contraceptive Pill) :
Yasmin, also commonly known as Yaz, is an oral contraceptive pill. It is used to prevent conception of a child. At times it is also used in the treatment of uterus related diseases like PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphonic Disorder) and POS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Its mode of action as a contraceptive is through prevention of the ovulation (release of eggs) in the ovaries. It also thickens the cervical mucus which blocks the sperm from passing to the uterus. Yasmin also tends to change the uterus lining thus making the uterine wall less receptive to the fertilized egg or embryo. Each tablet of Yasmin contains 3.0 mg of drospirenone and 0.030 mg of ethinyl estradiol including inactive ingredients like lactose monohydrate, corn starch, modified starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, macrogol, talc, titanium dioxide and ferric oxide pigment.

Yasmin Uses:
Yasmin is a combined contraceptive that consists of both progestin and estrogen. They are used not only as contraceptives but also to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding, regularize menstrual cycles, lessen menstrual pain and decrease the risk of ovarian or endometrial cancer. All women possess traces of male hormones known as testosterone. Drospirenone works against testosterone which is the main cause of acne and other problems. Thus Yasmin is known to reduce the occurrence of acne as well. Yasmin should not be consumed in women suffering from renal in sufficiency, hepatic dysfunction, adrenal insufficiency, thromboembolic disorders, cerebral- vascular or coronary- artery disease, valvular heart disease, sever hypertension, diabetes, headaches, carcinomas of breast, carcinoma of the breast, Cholestatic jaundice, live tumor and heavy smoking.
