Annual Caribbean festival and carnival Celebration in DC, Taino & Huddersfield
During the Caribbean carnival there are number of events take place in many Caribbean islands. There are several common themes based on folklore, culture and religion in this festival. The details of this annual Caribbean festival & carnival for the year 2009 in different cities are as follows:
DC Caribbean Carnival
The Washington DC’s 17th annual Caribbean Festival of 2009 was a summer celebration of the Caribbean parade and festival designed to encourage cross-cultural programs within the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area community in the expansion of Caribbean culture and to educate youths & adults in Caribbean culture, arts and crafts.
The free parade was started on Saturday June 27 at 11 a.m. The parade route was along Georgia Avenue from Missouri Avenue to Barry Place. This colorful parade lead to an international marketplace called “DE SAVANNAH,” featured food, crafts and entertainment. The two days festival dated on June 27 and 28 and it was located at Banneker Recreation Park, Georgia Avenue at Barry Place in Washington. To see more photos of DC carnival click here.
Taino Caribbean Carnival
Taino Caribbean Carnival was celebrated on Friday, July 10 at 10am to 9 pm. It was located in theater at 364 Cards Pond Road, Matunuck. The cost of a ticket was $10.00 each with a three show package for $24.00. Discount rates were available for the groups of 20 or more people.
Taino celebrates the American Caribbean music of Guajira, Mambo and Salsa. Kids and their parents had taken part in this festival. They helped to the beat, provided a backup chorus and joined in the music fun. This festive program was loaded with audience participation.
Huddersfield Caribbean Carnival
The first fun and festivities of Huddersfield Caribbean Carnival was started on July 10. The carnival procession was started at 1 pm on Saturday from the Hudawi Centre on Great Northern Street. Huddersfield Town Hall had play host the Carnival Royal event from 7 pm and a contest decided the carnival king, queen, prince and princess. The chosen carnival ‘royalty’ had joined the J’ouvert procession through Huddersfield, with music from EBA Brass and Horns at midnight.
Maryland Events (Special events) Caribbean Carnival
The festival will be celebrated on Saturday July 11, 2009 at Druid Hill Park, Baltimore. The festival will have a traditional island costumed parade, soca, reggae and steel drum bands. There will be live international entertainment, elaborate costumes and Caribbean cuisine. The timings of the carnival are as follows: Friday 5pm to 9 pm, Saturday and Sunday at 9 pm noon.
