With the celebration of carnival, Brussels, Belgium also decided to organize balloon day parade just like New York. You can see a parade of gigantic helium balloons in the shapes of animals, objects and comic strip characters.
The parade route is city’s main arteries from the South to the North Station with sound of brass bands. The parade are performed by the folklore groups of the City of Brussels, fire brigades, police and the famous marching bands, also with large numbers of people to see them. The balloons are prepared with help of professionals from U.S. They observe the route and decide about cables, street lamps or traffic lights will be either bypassed or the balloons will be lowered.
This colorful three hour parade is known as Brussels 2009 BD Comic Strip. It was organized on Saturday 28 February 2009 from 1.30 pm to 5 pm. It was the first parade.
