Chennai Sangamam 2010 Photos

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi initiated the 4th edition of the Chennai Sangamam 2010 on Sunday, January 10th and it has been based on the theme “Pirappokkum” (that gave a call to give up war and demolish caste and religious barriers). Every year during the month of January, Chennai Sangamam is one of the leading cultural festivals held in Chennai. Chennai Sangamam 2010 grand festival is started from January 10 and it will end on 16. See below the information of Chennai Sangamam 2010.

Chennai Sangamam 2010 is the largest “Open Festival of India” that belongs to all people irrespective of their religions, as well as to the non-believers.

It is presented by Tamil Maiyam in collaboration with Tourism Department, Govt of Tamil Nadu. Chennai Sangamam is centered on the Pongal festival. This festival takes place in different parts of Chennai and it is conducted in parks, beaches, school/college grounds and many more locations. About 2,000 performers are lighting the spirit of Chennai for 7 days with around 4,000 performances. The festival depicts the culture of Tamil Nadu.

Kanimozhi, Coordinator of the event and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP told that the objective of the Chennai Sangamam was to re-link the displaced people with their roots. She said society must be pleased to the folk artists who continued to keep the art form alive without any monetary reward and social recognition. The other persons who participated in the programme were Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan, the Secretary, Tourism Department, V. Irai Anbu, and Fr Jagath Gasper of Tamil Maiyam.

  • Food Festival: Where you can taste all variety of foods from Kongu Nadu Samayal, Manaparai Murukku, Kovilpatti Kadalai Mittai, Virundhunagar Parotta, Iruttukadai Halwa, Dindigul Venu Biriyani and Chettinad Samayal. The “venue of food festival” will be in various places. Go there and enjoy the fest.
