Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi initiated the 4th edition of the Chennai Sangamam 2010 on Sunday, January 10th and it has been based on the theme “Pirappokkum” (that gave a call to give up war and demolish caste and religious barriers). Every year during the month of January, Chennai Sangamam is one of the leading cultural festivals held in Chennai. Chennai Sangamam 2010 is the largest “Open Festival of India” that belongs to all people irrespective of their religions, as well as to the non-believers.
Kanimozhi, Coordinator of the event and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP told that the objective of the Chennai Sangamam was to re-link the displaced people with their roots. She said society must be pleased to the folk artists who continued to keep the art form alive without any monetary reward and social recognition. The other persons who participated in the programme were Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan, the Secretary, Tourism Department, V. Irai Anbu, and Fr Jagath Gasper of Tamil Maiyam.
