Shri Ganesha Chaturthi is an important festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha’s birthday in the month of Magha especially in Maharashtra. It is also known as Until Kund Chaturthi and Vinayak Chaturthi. Ganesh Chaturthi festival is a very royal and colorful festival in the Hindu culture. Ganesh, the son of Shiva, is worshipped the world over for his wisdom and he bestows prosperity and happiness on all who worship him. He is also known as “vighnahartaa” or the remover of problems.
Ganesha has to be worshipped at the beginning of every puja or ritual, every year 70-80 thousand Ganpati idols are immersed at about 50 different places during Ganesh Chaturthi festival in Mumbai alone.

The festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi. Ganesha Chaturthi starts with the installation of Ganesha statue in colorfully decorated homes and specially erected temporary structures mantapas (pandals) in every locality. The pandals are decorated by using decorative items like flower garlands, lights, etc or are theme based decorations, which depict religious themes or current events. The statues are worshiped with families and friends during 10 days.
