Gilroy Garlic Festival 2009 has been started on today 24th July, 2009 and run till to 26th July 2009. This is the Mother of all garlic festival. It was started in 1979. And in 2008 it grew in attendance to 107,000 happy garlic eaters. This years they will plan to enjoy Garlic Ice Cream with Cantaloupe, Cajun Crawdads and Garlic Fried Green Tomatoes, and Garlic Almonds. The garlic festival is created for provide benefits to local worthy charities and non-profit groups by encouraging the society of Gilroy through a quality celebration of Garlic.
This festival starting in December of each year and this festival call across the United States and Canada for participating of the best garlic recipes. Recent winners have included Walnut-Garlic Tart with Garlic-Infused Cream and Chili Syrup; Chai Steeped Chicken Breasts with Oriental Aioli; Basil and Garlic-Stuffed Sea Scallops wrapped in Prosciutto and served with a Spicy Citrus Beurre Blanc; and Garlic Seafood Soup.
In this festival finalist will choose on Saturday and they prepare their recipes of the festival in front of the public. . The winner of the Great Garlic Cook-Off is appropriately honored with a crown of garlic and goes home $1,000 richer. Second place is awarded $750; third, $500.
