National Doughnut Day celebrated on first Friday of June

National Donut day is celebrated on the first Friday in June. National Doughnut Day began in 1938 as a fund raiser for the Chicago Salvation. Their aim was to help the disadvantaged during the Great Depression. Salvation Army female volunteers known as “lassies” prepared thousands of fresh donuts to the homesick soldiers that served in France during World War I.
