Mehndi is the application of Henna as a temporary form of skin decoration in South Asia, the Southwest Asia, North Africa and the Horn of Africa, as well as foreign communities from these areas. Mehndi Designs traditionally falls into four different styles.
- The Middle Eastern style: This is mainly made of floral patterns similar to the Arabic textiles, paintings and carvings, and usually do not follow a typical pattern.
- The North African style: This normally follows the shape of the hands and feet with geometric floral patterns.
- The Indian and Pakistani style: These includes more than just the feet and hands and generally extend further up the appendages to give the illusion of gloves and stockings which are made up of lines, paisley patterns and teardrops.
- Indonesian and Southern Asian styles: This style is a blend of Middle Eastern and Indian designs with blocks of color on the tip of the toes and fingers.
In recent times all 4 types of style are very popular but now they have also been been joined in popularity by celtic designs and chinese symbols. The Process : How to apply Mehndi (Henna) Designs or tattoo on hands ?
To apply Henna design on hand or feet, the paste of henna is filled in a plastic cone, or henna can be applied directly to the skin using a paint brush. Silk painting some times requires use of a jac bottle with a small metal tip.
After henna is applied on the skin, to lock body heat, it is advised to wrap up the painted area with either tissue, plastic or medical tape in order to create a more intense color on the skin.
Keep this wrapper for 8-10 hours and then remove it. Your henna will get final reddish brown colour, and will last about 2 weeks to several month on your body!
