The competition between the two operating systems, Android and Apple iOS has becoming more intense. Both of these are growing faster in their paths to achieve supremacy. Google has launched the ‘Google One Pass’ subscription service just a day after the Apple put its latest in-app subscription model. Google may release the long expected music service in its applications to counter the Apple iTunes. Additionally, Apple may also try to place social products with the Mobile Me like Google social buzz. The war between these two is too close that it is tough to say which one is better. Here some key features are compared between Google’s Android and Apple iOS.

The fundamental difference is that Android is open system and Apple is closed system. Android was created by the Android Inc. and later gained by the Google. It was emerged from the Linux kernel version. The Android operating system can be used in most of the devices that support it such as cell phone, tablet PC’s, netbook, Dell Streak, Samsung Galaxy Tab, etc. Apple iOS initially included only in the iPhones but recently it is being used in the iPad, iPhones and iPod Touch. Apple application cannot run on third party applications.

Available versions

Android offers various versions, for instance Cupcake (Android 1.1, 1.5), Donut (Android 1.6), Éclair (Android 2 and 2.1), Android Froyo 2.2, Gingerbread 2.3 and Android Honeycomb 3.0. The versions for the Apple iOS are 1.x, 2.x, 3.x and 4.x.


There are about 350,000 iOS applications for iTunes and thousands of application for the iPad at the Apple Market Place. The Android had over 100,000 applications till the end of the 2010 but the number of these applications has been increased drastically after that in the Android Market.


Presently Apple has laid only two smartphones in the market, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS in addition to the iPod Touch and the iPad. iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS exist in the two separate carriers in the United State. Though it offers various storage configurations, there are only two models. On the other side, Android has liberated around 40 smartphones in all four main carrier of the United State.

Apple contains Ping, a music-based social network constructed into iOS and desktop versions of iTunes. As per the talks, Apple may insert MobileMe for location-based and media-sharing features. Both are trying to go ahead in the social site development but still no one can reach near the biggest social media such as Facebook and Foursquare.

Android in cooperation to Apple iOS supports Skype video calling, Multiple Exchange Account, Exchange Security Restrictions and Exchange Server Sync and Outlook Sync. Both the firms have put in a way the ‘in-application subscription services’ through which publishers can easily display their digital content in various websites and readers can subscribe their desired news sources, music and video or other subscription-based contents.
