What is Android 2.2 FroYo OS?
The new and happening “Froyo” has been available on the web since the review testing of Nexus One by the press in January 2010, when there was a leakage at one of the transmitters receiving the updates. Since then, people have been anxiously waiting for the availability of this leaked update. Due to this and other factors relating to Android 2.1, Google has rushed the release of Froyo (Short codename of for Frozen Yogurt).

For information, Froyo is the latest version of Android Operating System for mobile phones- version 2.2. Its features make it a revolutionary move by Google in the market. The best thing about this Froyo is that focus has been kept on speed of the OS. According to latest news, it shall provide a 2-5x improvement in speed for all devices it will be installed in. Thus, all phones which shall have Froyo installed in them, shall definitely present an impacting experience on its users.
There may be two aspects regarding the installation. Either you can upgrade a rooted Nexus One to Android 2.2, or manually update the Nexus One to Froyo.
A Guide to manually update the Nexus One to Froyo:
It is first recommended to perform an Android backup first, before starting the installation. The steps for performing the update are enumerated below.
- Start with downloading the update. To do this, click here.
- Now, you rename the above file to “update.zip”.
- Copy the file to the root folder of your MicroSD card.
- Turn the phone off.
- Now, boot into the recovery mode of Nexus One. This is possible by holding the track ball and one press of the power button.
- Select the “Bootloader” option.
- Then, select the “Recovery” option.
- Till you get a big exclamation point, wait, i.e. for the phone to restart.
- After this, you must press the “Volume up” and “Power” button at the same time.
- Now using the trackball, select the “Apply sdcard:update.zip” .
- Thus you have successfully updated the Nexus One to the latest Android 2.2.
Caution: You must make sure that you have renamed the file to the correct one as shown above.
A guide to update a rooted Nexus One to Froyo:
- Firstly, download the rooted Android 2.2 and save the file on your PC. To do this click here.
- Now you need to transfer this file into the root folder of your MicroSD card. This can be done using a USB data cable.
- Turn your phone off.
- Then you need to keep the “Power” button and “Volume down” button pressed till the skateboarding Androids arrive.
- Now you need to press the “Volume down” button to highlight the “Recovery” option.
- Do press the “Power” button to select it. Thus, you have entered the custom recovery mode.
- Select the “Wipe data/ Factory reset”.
- Now, use the trackball to select “Flash.zip” and you must wait for it to flash.

- Now finally, you need to reboot.
- And there you are, you have successfully updated a rooted Nexus One to Froyo.
