The Chinese smartphone maker, Gionee has also joined the never-ending world’s slimmest smartphone race with its new flagship named Elife S5.5. Gionee Elife S5.5 is the newest contender of world’s slimmest smartphone title. Let’s take a look at the features and specifications of this world’s slimmest smartphone.
Gionee Elife S5.5 has broken all the records and reached the top of the charts by offering a thickness of 5.5mm. It is ultra-portable, comfortable to use and can slide easily into the pocket. This smartphone is designed for youth and professionals. Apart from being the slimmest smartphone, it comes with premium features and specifications.

Design and build
The device features new unibody metallic design along with a rectangular magnesium alloy frame, which gives it a premium look and feel. It is made up of metal and glass. There are three capacitive navigation keys below the display, while the front camera with ultra-wide angle lens is positioned above it. The Power button, the Volume keys, the SIM card tray, a 3.5mm headset jack and microUSB port are on the edges. On the rear side, you get a camera, LED flash, Gionee branding and a speaker outlet. The device weighs and measures 130 grams (with its metal chassis) and 145.1 x 70.2 x 5.55mm respectively.
The Elife S5.5 features 5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, which makes it the first non-Samsung phone to have it. The screen comes with Gorilla Glass 3 coating for protection against scratches and normal wear-tear. The display delivers rich colors, sharp text, rich graphics, and very good viewing angles. The screen pixel density is 441 pixels per inch.
Hardware and storage
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by 1.7 GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor for smooth performance. The processor is paired with Mali 450-MP4 GPU graphics, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in memory, which is non-expandable.
The Gionee Elife S5.5 is based on Android 4.2.2 along with company’s signature Amigo UI. It is the same UI found in the Elife E6 and E7, but this time the company has made improvements in it. The device doesn’t come with the latest Android version, KitKat so it is a big disappointment. Also, the company has not disclosed whether the device will be upgraded to KitKat or not.
There is a 13-megapixel camera on the rear located at right-side corner of the back panel with LED Flash below it. The rear camera features two shooting modes (the professional and normal camera settings), HDR mode as well as sports mode. The rear camera is able to record full HD videos. The front camera is of 5-megapixel with 95 degree wide lens. It is the first device that spots 95 degree ultra-wide angle 5 megapixel front camera. The camera UI of Elife S5.5 is just like the Elife E7.
Despite of thin frame, the device includes a non-removable 2300 mAh battery. The company claims that it will upgrade the capacity from 2300 mAh to 2,450mAh after a software update.
Availability and Price:
Elife S5.5 will be available in five different color options with a price tag of Rs. 22,999. It will hit the Indian stores from April 27, 2014.
