The Finnish company, Nokia has just announced its first Android handsets at Mobile World Congress (MWC) – Nokia X, X+, and Nokia XL. The new Nokia X series phones are based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), and will cater the requirements of emerging markets with its dual-SIM compatibility. These three new smartphones seems like a cross between Windows Phone UI and Nokia’s own Asha. The Nokia X is out now in countries including India, for €89 ($122), while the Nokia X+ and the Nokia XL will be available in early Q2 of this year for €99 ($136) and €109 ($150) respectively. Take a look at the comparison table of Nokia X vs Nokia X+ vs Nokia XL Android phones, so that you can decide which one better suits your needs in terms of features, specs and prices.

All three handsets are dual-SIM phones, and are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor. As well, they feature a brand new, tile-based home screen. The user interface has been purposely intended to match Lumia devices. The glance screen displays the time and notifications. There is Nokia’s unified stream known as Fastlane, which puts notifications and latest apps together for fast access.

These devices are pre-loaded with different games and third-party apps like BBM, Plants vs Zombies 2, Viber, Vine and Twitter. What makes the new X family noteworthy is that they aren’t powered by Nokia’s usual choice for its lower-end devices, the Series 40-based Asha OS, or its favored smartphone operating system, Windows Phone. But these three phones will be running Android. As mentioned above, all these phones run a forked version of Android and thus run Android apps; however you won’t get Google’s services on here. In its place, you’ll get Microsoft and Nokia powering your experience.

The Nokia X series family is intended at emerging, or growth, markets and for the first time permit owners of Windows Phone devices to download and use Android applications. As an introductory offer, Microsoft is providing buyers one month of Skype’s Unlimited World Subscription for a limited time (best to make international calls to landlines in over 60 countries and to mobile phones in 8 countries), and 1GB of OneDrive storage.

The Nokia X features a 4-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) display and is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor paired with 512MB of RAM. Other features included are 1,500mAh battery, 4GB of storage with microSD support, and 5-megapixel camera. The Nokia X+ has similar specs, although with extra memory and expandable storage. On the other hand, the Nokia XL sports a bigger display of 5-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) display, and features better cameras of 5MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera.

Nokia’s new X series, much like the Lumias, will be available in 6 bright colors. Color availability may differ across regions. Out of the box, one can enjoy signature Nokia experiences like free access to Here Maps that takes care of directions, with true offline maps and included turn-by-turn navigation, and Nokia MixRadio for free music streaming and downloadable playlists.
