If you were badly looking for an iPad and cursing Apple for taking such a lot of time to release the iPad in India then here is some good news- Before the Apple iPad comes to the country Olive telecom, a company well known for its innovative and new devices amongst the tech freaks in the country has come up with India’s first 3G Tablet computer- The Olive Pad VT100.

This is how the olive telecom described the Olive Pad while they were about to launch the same- “With an inbuilt three mega pixel camera and a front camera, the Olive Pad can be used as a touch notebook allowing browsing, Multimedia, Instant Messaging and easy access to the world of social networking, GPS for maps and turn by turn directions, gaming console, an e- book reader, Television and it is also a Smart Phone allowing voice and Video Calling. OlivePad is equipped with distinctive features which include flash support, mini USB port, Camera and a Smartphone.” Well, the claim is more than good enough and is mouthwatering as the device is reported to be priced at Rs.25,000 or even below that.

If we take a closer look at the specs we can see that the operating system is something that is not to be much talked about the Android 2.1- the most stable version of the OS but the Android 2.2 just around the corner this device may well become outdated after the release of the same (that is if an update is not issued) the voice and video calling feature is something that the device can be device can be proud about. However, we cannot say the same about its front and back cameras. The 3.5G HSUPA connectivity is something that still remains to be tested.

With the device expected to be launched in August the Croma Centres one of the leading electronics store chains in the country has been given the responsibility of retailing the device in the country. With the new technology coming at a relatively low cost the new Tablet PC is sure to make inroads into the Indian market and with still some time in the Apple iPad being launched in the country it is expected to sell around 100,000 pieces of the same in the next six months. How the device will fair with the launch of the Apple iPad is another issue but surely it will create a lot of hype now.
