New Galaxy Tabs named Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 have been launched by Samsung. Among these Galaxy Tabs, Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the best alternative of iPad 2. Both Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and iPad 2 have their own unique features. The Samsung Tab is suggested for the more hardcore tablet users, while iPad 2 is suggested for the more casual tablet users, who are in search of a simple and easily usable tablet.
If you compare the technical specifications of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Apple iPad 2, then you will find Galaxy Tab is stronger than Apple iPad 2. But while talking about Operating Systems, iPad 2 is much smoother and faster than any other tablet presently available.
The Galaxy Tab has the Android’s Tablet version Honeycomb OS which is unstable, unbaked, and has poor performance but it offers a better notification system and more flexibility.
The iPad 2 runs on the iOS operating system of Apple, which has better stability and performance. The iOS is the best operating system for tablets and smart phones which offers a well-known and reliable UI experience across all apps.
While talking about storage, iPad is superior with its 64GB model. But the Samsung tabs beat the iPad 2 by 1GB RAM as iPad 2 has 512 MB RAM only.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs on dual-core 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. The Apple iPad runs on 1GHz dual-core Apple A5 processor having a huge upgrading over the earlier iPad’s A4 and has faster graphical performance than the older version. Till now, no comparisons or benchmark have been performed between NVIDIA Tegra 2 and Apple’s A5 processor.
Both of these devices have approximately same dimensions but Samsung tab is thinner and lighter than Apple iPad 2. The Samsung Tab measures 10.1 x 6.9 x 0.34 inches and it weighs 560g. The iPad 2 measures 9.5 x 7.3 x 0.3 inches and it weighs 601g.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v is featured with magnificent 10.1 inch display as suggested by its name with 1280×800 pixel resolution. The screen size of Samsung Tab is about 1/2 an inch bigger than the iPad 2. The iPad 2 features a 9.7 inch backlit-LED IPS screen same as previous version with resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Thus, 10.1” Samsung Galaxy Tab will contend directly with the 9.7” iPad 2.
25 folder or app icons per screen are hold by iPad 2, among which 5 are constant in all home screens while 35 app icons per screen are hold by Galaxy Tab 10.1 but no folder icon option.
Galaxy Tab clearly beats the iPad 2 in the category of camera, as it features 8-MP rear camera with 1080p HD capture capability and a 2-MP front camera for video calling. The iPad features a rear camera of 0.7 mega pixel with 720P HD capture capability and VGA front camera for video calling.
These both devices include almost same batteries of 6800 mAh but the iPad 2 gives a longer battery life of 10 hours than the 7 hours life of Galaxy Tab.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab and The iPad 2 have the same Bluetooth 2.1 EDR, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, and optional 3G connectivity. Both the devices lack a microSD card slot but there is an HDMI output included in iPad 2.
The performance and relative speed of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and iPad 2 are quite comparable. Both are swift tabs with fast Wi-Fi components.
The Facebook photo upload and Web-site-loading speed of these tabs is almost similar, and difference of only 2 or 3 seconds is measured.
