Zync Cloud Z5: Review of Features

A “Phablet” is a hybrid device, a phone and a tablet, which includes the features of tablet with huge screen. A couple of years back, DELL started this new trend with Dell Streak but the device failed to impress. In 2011, the Samsung reignited the Phablet category with its Galaxy Note and made this category successful. After seeing the huge success of the Galaxy Note, every big and small device maker in the country and abroad has started exploring the phablet category to meet the demands of the consumers. The latest entrant in the segment is Zync. The company has launched its first phablet named Cloud Z5 recently. This 5-inch dual-SIM Android phablet is a great competitor of Micromax A100 Superfone Canvas, Spice Stellar Horizon Mi-500, Micromax A110 Superfone Canvas 2 and iBall Andi 5c. Let’s see the review of features and specifications of Cloud Z5.

Review of Features and Specifications:

Cloud Z5 is a stylish bar shaped phablet, which is wonderfully wrapped in black color just like the Samsung Galaxy Note. It features flush glossy front and chrome finish on the sides. You can see the Zync branding imprinted below the earpiece and a home key at the bottom. There is a capacitive menu button and a capacitive back button on the left and right side of the home key respectively. Its rear portion has matte textured black finish that keeps the device scratch and smudge free. You can also see the Zync branding clearly on the rear panel. The mono loud speaker is located at the bottom of the rear panel while on/off/sleep/wake button on the left side and the volume rocker on right side of the device. It weighs 165 grams, which is not too heavy for its size.

The device comes with a 5-inch TFT LCD Capacitive Touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480P. The screen includes a 5 Point Multi-Touch feature. The resolution of the screen is not impressive, but at Rs 9,000, it is a lot more than we bargained for. The display provides sharp and vibrant picture quality, if you keep the brightness in its threshold. Its touch sensitivity is perfect and the colour reproduction & black levels are also good. Even though the phablet has capacitive touch, it is totally flawless to use. Third party keyboards can be used easily on this huge screen.

Operating System

The Zync Cloud C5 is based on the outdated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system rather than the latest 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). Even the company has not revealed whether the operating system will be upgraded or not in coming period. Zync has included the stock Holo theme to the device with no user interface customization. Users will get a pure vanilla experience of the operating system as there is no UI customization. It supports Google Play, so you are able to download and enjoy number of applications and games supported by this phablet.

Processor and Memory

The key player of any device whether it is a tablet, phablet or smartphone is its processor. Cloud C5 is powered by 1GHz single-core processor along with 512MB RAM, which guarantees outstanding performance all the time. When it comes to storage, the device comes with 4GB built-in memory that can be expanded up to 32GB with a micro SD card.

There are two cameras: front and rear. The front facing camera is of 0.3MP for video calling and the rear camera is of 8MP with auto focus and LED flash. The camera is capable to record HD videos. The 8MP camera provides limitless possibilities for using the pictures while 0.3MP camera is enough for basic video calls. The image quality is good and the colours are captured nicely with details.

It is equipped with a 2500mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery. The battery provides a talk time of up to 5 hours in a single charge.

Connectivity features of the phablet are 3G, WiFi for connecting to any hotspot zone or any wireless router; Bluetooth 2.0 for transferring data and the GPS that provides life to lots of applications and games.
