The Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is a military housing allowance given to all military workers who are not living in a government provided house. Basic Allowance for Housing can be used to pay mortgages, rent, etc. The Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) rates for 2010 have been released by the US Department of Defense. On January 1, 2010 the BAH rates for permanent – duty troops increases an average of 2.5%. Here the information is provided about New 2010 BAH rates for military.
The major aim of BAH is to provide Housing Allowance to military staff who does not reside in government provided house. The BAH program is planned to benefit the service member, but it is not considered to pay 100% of housing expenses. The rate is projected to cover rent, renter’s insurance and utilities based on pay grade and craving status. In 2010, it is anticipated that $19 billion in BAH will be paid to nearly 1 million service members. Cheryl Anne Woehr said “The increase comes to average of around $37 per month for the more than 900,000 service members expected to draw the basic allowance for housing in 2010. Some areas will see a higher increase, while others will see less”. Woehr also added “Rates are set based on actual housing data, so as the economy has declined, vacancy rates have increased [and] rental prices have declined, which results directly to lower BAH rates in various areas,” She said “Service members are able to take advantage of the increase in rates, but are not affected by decreasing rates”. She added, But service members who change duty stations, change dependency status or get promoted on or after Jan. 1 will be affected by the new rates. You can get BAH Rates online here. Just you need to select the year and enter the Duty Zip Code. Then enter the pay grade. Click on the “Execute”. For more information, click here. Source: dvidshub.net
