Pink Toe Tarantula Information

Pinktoe Tarantula has a two-sided symmetry, it is common, docile, beautiful, and can be speedy. Pinktoe tarantulas are most well known for this name being the type species of the genus (A. avicularia). When it is a baby, it has pink legs with black “toes”. When it becomes adult it has mostly dark with pink “toes”, a little bit of a green color on the carapace and some reddish color on the opisthosoma. Female are much taller than males, the females can be 4.5-5 inches in legspan. The male Pinktoe tarantula can rise to be about 3.5 inches in legspan. They can become more of confront if more than one are kept together in a terrarium. The pinktoe is very passive and active creature. They prefer to live in trees and other plants but live in many common places. When you handle a pinktoe, must be careful, if they are disturbed, they will shoot out some excrement. This species is very adaptable and also makes a great pet.

Origin: The pinktoe tarantula (Aviculara avicularia) originates from all over Northern South America. They come from fairly low habitats, places such as low plants, buildings, under leaves, behind small blocks, etc.

Range: Tropical areas of Brazil, Trinidad, Guyana, French Guyana, Surinam, Venezuela, and throughout the Amazon Basin.

Type: Arboreal.

Diet: Spiderlings eat flightless fruit flies, pinhead crickets, and other small insects. Adults eat crickets, moths, flies, other large insects, and an occasional small lizard or pinkie mouse.

Growth: Medium speed, Full Grown Size 4.5 to 5 inches.

Temperature: 75 to 85° F, (24-30 C)

Humidity: 78 to 82%. All tarantulas that have at least a 3″ legspan may drink from a shallow, wide water dish.

Temperament: Docile and active.

Housing: Spiderlings can live in a tall clear plastic container with air holes. Adults can live in a 10 to 40-gallon tank, depending on the number of tarantulas. This Avicularia species can be kept communally in a large, well-planted terrarium with many hiding spots and broad-leaved plants. There should be little or no cannibalism, especially if the tarantulas are about the same

Size: Pinktoe Tarantulas reach a leg span of around 4.5 – 5 inches

Life Span (females): Up to 10+ years (males much shorter)

Substrate: 2 to 3 inches of peat moss, potting soil, or wood chips.

Decor: Branches, live plants, vines, etc. make good hiding places and provide a base for the web. Moss can be added for floor cover.
