The Classpad was specifically developed & designed by an IIT and IIM graduate Rohit Pande with the intention to prepare more advanced tool for education of Indian students. This device comes in the market at a lower price, better hardware specification as well as some eye caching features as compared to the Aakash tablet, and definitely it will give a better combat to Akash in the low cost tablet PC market 2012. The main focus of Classpad is students from standard three to twelfth; it will serve as interactive e-reading gadget for the students as well it can stock up an entire library of books in it.
This device will be available in 2 models; 1) The OTPC (One Tablet Per Child) model that is appropriate for a single student, 2) The Trolley model that is appropriate for the usage by children in a group.
This latest tablet is packed with a 1.3GHz processor that makes it rapid in accessing, and it runs on the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system. When comes to display, this device comes in 3 models according to the display size; Classpad 7 – 7” display, Classpad 8 – 8” display, & Classpad 10 – 10” display. The display type is TFT LCD Capacitive touchscreen having resolution of 1024X600 pixels. The device packs rechargeable Li-poly battery power adapter (DC 9V, 2A) and offers a 7 hours battery life that is more than enough for the students.
The tablet comes with 4GB internal memory that lets students to store projects, documents, files and eBooks. As well, the memory can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot. The device also features Wi-Fi Connectivity to provide an easy internet access to students for education purpose.
The other features come with this tablet include 0.3 Mega pixels front camera, 7,000 educational applications, Stereo speakers, 512MB of RAM, Single USB 2.0 port, Mini HDMI port, 3.5mm headphone & built-in microphone. Furthermore, this gadget can be connected to interactive whiteboards that are being utilized in most modern schools.
According to Rohit Pande, CEO of Classteacher Learning Systems, differentiation of the learning capabilities of the students to educate them at the same level is the major problem faced by teachers in our education system. To overcome this problem, Classpad is intended with artificial intelligence (AI) app that can assist the teachers to classify students in to slow learners, average learners and fast learners according to their learning capacity. So teachers can teach all the students in single schedule without giving special classes. The tablet also comes with installed software that can test the creativity, application of language skills and the problem solving capability of students and thus presents them with modified teaching as per their learning capabilities.
The introduction of Classpad inscribes the next level of modernism in terms of modified pedagogy structure. The newer applications designed in Classpad will empower students to learn better and teacher to teach better. With the use of Classpad, teachers can easily share their own content instantly, transfer class work to the tablet of students as well conduct assessments and tests hassle free. The new Classpad will hit the Indian market in the late January of 2012 with the price bracket ranging from Rs.7, 500 to Rs.14, 500. The Classteacher Learning Systems has provided 2 types of payments on the basis of the tablet type. Students can purchase the Trolley model by paying just 100rs per each student, while OTPC model can be bought by paying the whole amount.
