Motorola Quench XT5 (the tablet version of the Backflip carrying Android 2.1) Specs and Images revealed

Though Motorola is now an ‘old horse in the race’ in the smartphone industry you cannot really count this old horse out.  Every now and then the Moto people keep revoking their relationship with the Android cult and keep building a smartphone that will challenge the market owners. This time the new Moto-device has caught the attention of bloggers all around the world and it is called the Android Quench XT5. It is not the first time we are hearing about the Motorola Quench XT5 but what we have received are some official looking pictures and specifications of this upcoming Android smartphone

Remember the Backflip the unusual looking form factor phone from Motorola that had a screen plus a QWERTY keyboard that could be flipped over to use. This one is very similar to the backflip in the form factor sense only that it misses the QWERTY keypad. This can rather be considered as the tablet version of the Motorola Backflip. The recent specs revelation has shown that the phone carries the Android 2.1 OS (the most stable version of the Android). It has the same 3.2-inch HVGA (320×480 pixels) display and 5.0 MP camera with flash like the Backflip. However, the XT5 will run on Android 2.1 (unlike the backflip that runs has got the Froyo update) and have a 256 MB RAM/512 MB ROM.

Here are the detailed specs of the Motorola XT5:

  • Android 2.1(Éclair) OS
  • 3.2-inch HVGA (320×480 pixels) display, 262K color
  • Camera: 5 MP
  • 256 MB RAM
  • 512 MB ROM
  • EDGE Class 12
  • HSDPA 7.2 Mbps (Category 7/8)
  • WCDMA 900/1900/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900
  • Dimensions: 56 x 114 x 13 mm
  • Weight: 114 g
  • Battery: 1270 mAh
  • GSM Talktime: 8.2 hours
  • GSM Standby Time: 23.3 days
  • WCDMA Talktime: 6.4 hours
  • WCDMA Standby Time: 22.7 days
  • FM radio, DivX video playback

According to some blog sites the phone shall be available for the price tag of Rs.15,000 in India although the price tag is not at all official. The phone seems to be competition for the HTC wildfire and the Samsung Galaxy for the features offered by the Motorola XT5 are very much similar to those offered by the HTC Wildfire. Moreover, the recently released HTC wildfire costs somewhere around the 25k mark while the Samsung Galaxy costs somewhere around the 30K mark and so the price tag of the device shall be a big asset.

It probably won’t see an U.S. launch in the near future, as it misses the necessary WCDMA 850 Mhz network compatibility. Other information leaked points out that the handset features a 1270 mAh Li-Ion battery that should get users about 8.2 hours (6.4 hours for 3G) GSM talk time and 23.3 days (22.7 days for 3G) standby time.

So, there it is-another leak, another android device to look for, and another features list to compare. Although this one is just opening up, we have a keen eye on all the movements and as ever we promise to keep you updated with any new news in the matter. Meanwhile, do let us know of your opinions about the phone in the comments section below.
