Web browsing on Android is hitting new landmarks with various web browsers coming up for the Android platform for host of new features but Opera is still the uncrowned king of them all. With its speed and features Opera tends to topple all that come in its way. Very recently we had covered the release of the Firefox for Android and here today we have Opera contemplating every one of its competitor with its newest version of the mobile browser- The Opera Version 10.1. The newest version has more capabilities than the previous one and what’s more it boots better speeds as well.
Since buying my Android I have been a keen fan of Opera Mobile Mini and it certainly interests me to know what exactly the difference is. Well speaking very technically- In Opera Mini, the Opera Presto browser engine is located on a server. In Opera Mobile, it is installed on your phone. For those who found it difficult to understand, here it is simplified, when you enter a Web address in Opera Mobile, the Web page is fetched directly from the Web server to your phone. However, the Opera Mini client sends a request to the Opera Mini server, which downloads the page from the Internet. The server then transcodes the page before it is forwarded to the client in a lightweight mark-up language designed specifically for this purpose.
However there are a few of the things that both the browsers did not change like both are based on the same core technology, the Opera Presto browser engine (just like Opera for desktop). Both use the same cross-platform user interface, providing similar features and browsing experience. Besides the usual advancements there are a few issues that were present in the Opera Mini and have been addressed now. Firstly, Incorrect fonts used for some Asian characters (Japanese not working)which had really got the Japanese agitated. Also, there were some real compatibility loop holes with some Google services (working with Google on that)even the browser had Web fonts disabled and hence is was not much fun for the web developers around the world.
According to an official Opera Blog
“In practical terms, here is what that means for you: Opera Mobile will render Web pages just like a desktop browser. In Opera Mini, there may be slight differences, and very complex Web pages may not work optimally. Opera Mini will generally be faster. It downloads less content and requires less CPU to render pages. Opera Mini works on almost any phone. Opera Mobile is only available for Windows Mobile, Symbian/S60 and Android phones.”
Whether your mobile is compatible or not is no issue for you to worry yourself with, all you need to do is to navigate to the m.opera.com in your mobile phone browser and Opera will automatically detect the best version for your device.
