Sirius Xm Android App Review: Get Satellite Radio on Your Phone

These days if you own a smartphone, and especially if it is an Android then that is all you need to own, because that in itself is so much of services that you really don’t need anything else- from navigation helper to music player from exercise manager to calorie counter these days an Android smartphone is capable enough to handle most of your day to day needs.  Radio is one of the many forms of entertainment that have suffered due to this sudden upsurge in the number of smartphones around the world. Most smartphones these days are capable of catching FM radio signals however the satellite radio format was pretty untouched till now. But SIRIUS XM Android App will now remove this barrier, leaving even the satellite radio a puppet of your palms.

Sirius Xm Android App Review: Brings Satellite Radio to Your Phone

The SISRIUS XM app was already available for the IPhone and hence this new release for the Android market is just an improvement over the existing technology. But with this improvement the company has hit the biggest market base around the world and that is quite a big achievement. Satellite radio is an analogue or digital radio signal that is relayed through one or more satellites and thus can be received in a much wider geographical area than terrestrial FM radio stations these waves need special type of receiver that have to be purchased to be able to receive the signals.

This app uses the WiFi or the cellular network of your phone to make accessible more than 120 different channels for sports, talk, entertainment, news, comedy, commercial-free music and other genres from all around the world. The app is powered with three major functionalities you can use it to:

  • Listen to over 120 channels of SIRIUS XM Premium Online programming on the go, even while surfing the web or checking email.
  • Bookmark SIRIUS XM Premium Online channels for fast, easy access through a “Favorites” function.
  • View the current channel plus what is playing on all other channels via the “Lookaround” function.

The bookmarking function is really a great addition to the app and it is very nice to see that the company has not forgotten to add that. There is no additional charge for listening to SIRIUS XM’s Premium Online programming on an Android-powered smartphone once a user becomes a SIRIUS XM Premium Online subscriber or subscribes to the Company’s Premium Online service in conjunction with their satellite radio subscription which of course comes only after paying a nominal charge.

For those who do not know, SIRIUS XM Radio is America’s satellite radio company delivering to subscribers commercial-free music channels, premier sports, news, talk, entertainment, and traffic and weather. Users of the SIRIUS XM App will receive a 7-day free trial of the SIRIUS XM Premium Online service after which the service will be stopped unless you become a paid subscriber of the company’s programs.

Unfortunately not all the android phones are capable of receiving the service now but the ones that can include: Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, HTC Droid Eris, HTC Hero, G1, Motorola CLIQ and Nexus One what is also good to see is that the company has not left out the T mobile G1 from the list.

So guys happy listening!
