Google updates the Gmail app for the Android Market, with quoted text and Priority Inbox
The quote that shows the previous message that was sent to the same destination in the same context appears in a different colour followed by the ‘>’ symbol on each line when you reply to a message on your Gmail account from your personal computer but the same is strangely not present when you do the same on your Android phone using the Gmail app. Google as usual has taken care of this bug by using an update to the app that is available only for people currently using the Froyo operating system. There is much more to this app than just the ability to show quoted text to find out more read on…

Recently Google has been on the hunt to for the opportunities to improve the email organization on its very own Gmail service. The priority inbox was another such attempt and the new update can be considered as an attempt to better the mobile platform. The updated app is supposed to bring the Priority inbox to the Android platform but that is not completely true the app brings only a few features of the priority inbox like sorting it only in the important criterion however the less important and the junk feature could not make it to the newest version of the app.
Another improvement that the app carries is that it’s available as a standalone download from the Android Market and not as an OS dependent one. Now, this means updates won’t be tied to operating system updates anymore. In other words, you won’t have to wait for Android 3.0 to get a new version of Gmail if you’re currently using Android 2.2. That’s the good news.

However, if you were hoping that a new Gmail app that’s independent of the OS would make your older Android 1.6 device feel like new, it looks like you’re out of luck at least for now because the App is available only for devices which are running the Android 2.2 OS or higher which means you’re good to go if you have a Nexus One, EVO, Droid or Droid 2. Plus. Google has been saying for a while that it plans to take this approach with some of the core apps that are normally bundled with the operating system. This will allow Google to push updates more quickly to devices even if they’re running HTC Sense, Samsung Touchwiz, or Motorola Blur software which tends to lead to handset makers taking a longer time to push out operating system updates.
Apart from the really impactful improvements there are other not so impactful ones that are improvements nonetheless- there are new persistent icons near the top of your screen no matter how far down you scrolling a message. This makes it easier to reply or star a message without having to scroll all the way back to the top.
So there it is now your Gmail is optimized for being used on your Android hope you have tried it already if not go to the Android market and download the app now! Once you have do not forget to let us know of your experiences in the comments section below.
