Apple is releasing free iPhone OS 4 (iOS4) upgrade on June 21 for iPhone 3GS/3G/iPod touch users. The OS of the Apple iPhone 4 – The iOS 4 is already getting a lot of eyebrows raised. This is the next generation of most innovative mobile operating system in the world. The new capabilities and the new features incorporated will change what is possible on a mobile platform. Here is an overview of what the iOS 4 is capable of and what it lacks.
Starting with the iPhone SDK 4, the SDK provided in the iOS 4 offers its users with an amazing range of technologies to enhance the functionality of the one –touch apps that are already present in their iPhone. They can also download newer apps using this kit and tweak them according to their wish. But, with this program you would not be able to create new apps of your own, but only modify the previously built apps. To get hold of this feature, one will have to enroll in the developers program, download the iPhone SDK 4 GM seed and then start developing new apps for themselves.
The iOS 4 supports seven new multitasking features which include the usual Background Music play, background voice over IP connection and Background location tracking- it is no more required to keep only the location app running to get location information, The location app can run in the background and fetch location information even if the user is busy doing some other task on their iPhone 4.
The multitasking feature delivered by the iOS4 also facilitates the use of push notifications, due to which the users of the iPhone will be informed of alerts from remote servers, with the app not kept running all the time. This seems to be of great help to those users who seek the latest updates without running of an app for the same. Also, this shall facilitate the support for task finishing at the background, and even faster app switching.
For most of the old iPhone users, it must have been a problem to navigate back from the screen that opens after clicking on a mobile-add. To solve this problem, the Apple team has thought of a solution wherein they will allow full screen add content to be displayed on the app window itself. The SDK discussed above allows the users to develop apps that have iAdd facility embedded in their apps and hence make add viewing on your iPhone an easier and comfortable experience.
With the availability of the Apple’s new gaming network, the Game Center, iOS 4 includes software allowing the user to create apps with a developer’s preview of the GameKit APIs, which shall work with the Game Center. There are over 1500 new APIs contained within the iPhone SDK 4, to provide the user with the facility of incorporating touch-apps, like the In-App SMS, Calendar Access, Video playback and capture, Quick look, Map Kit improvements, Photo library access, and a lot more.
With these few and extraordinary enhancements, the iOS 4 has become the first choice of many of the Apple gadget owners, and so Apple has released the upgrade to this iOS from the previous versions of the iPhone OS that will be available from 21st June, and is said to be free.
