Virgin Media has finally confirmed today the launch of the beta version of Virgin Media Player Beta, which is actually their first online and mobile TV player. With this confirmation, Virgin Media has also approved of hundreds of hours of content for performing the beta trial which does interestingly include ITV, LIVING, Disney, Cartoon Network, and National Geographic. There has also been a new agreement with MTV networks U.K. and Ireland, thus also incorporating a raft of MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon shows.

The channels offered by MTV Networks offer a lot of amazing and popular programmes such as South Park, Jersey Shore, Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob Squarepants and The Hills. Throughout his beta trial of Virgin Media Player, the Virgin Media’s XL TV customers who are in possession of a broadband connection with the company will have the ability to have a first look at the beta version of the Virgin Media Player by performing registration at www.virginmedia.com/player.
The registered pay monthly customers of Virgin mobile will be also provided with the provision for enjoying a complete hour of Virgin Media Player content at no extra charge on an everyday basis. Popular shows which have their mobile versions available can be viewed and enjoyed by any mobile phone owner via the Virgin Media mobile portal. The Virgin Media Player on mobile will be launched with VOD content, which shall be joined by MTV Snax, which is a made-for mobile channel, and will include bite-sized chunks and favourite shows, which include Cribs, The Hills and Nitro Circus. Apart from this, there are also made-for mobile channels from Nickelodeon and Comedy Central.
Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media said: “MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon already offer some hugely popular shows on our TV on demand platform so we’re delighted to be expanding our line-up across all three screens. We continue to explore innovative new ways to bring our customers’ favourite content to them and, with Virgin Media Player, we’re making sure they’re spoilt for choice.”
David Lynn, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, MTV Networks UK & Ireland, said: “Our viewers love staying in touch, up to date and entertained and we’re looking forward to bringing them our award winning content across all three of Virgin Media’s screens. By taking our content online and onto mobile, we’ll reach an even wider audience and open up new advertising opportunities.”
There is also news that the company is also trying to incorporate more content to their innovative Virgin Media Player, and this shall complete as the company prepares for the full launch of the player at the later part of the year. Virgin Media has also launched its online music video on demand service, and also Virgin Media Online Movies. This seems to be rather an innovative step in this market by Virgin Media and is surely going to become a trend setter in this field.
