British heartthrob Actor Andrew Garfield has officially been cast as the new Spider-Man in Sony’s reboot of the superhero “Spider-Man”, according to the announcement of Sony pictures. After a comprehensive worldwide casting search, the 26-year old relative newcomer has been chosen to depict Peter Parker in director Marc Webb’s Untitled Spider-Man Film!
Marc Webb (500 Days of summer) is directing $80 million production which will open in 3D and 2D theaters on July 3, 2012. Production of the film will be started in early December directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt. The film focuses on an adolescent wrestling with both contemporary human problems and astonishing super-human crises.
Director Marc Webb said, “Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words; you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”
The 26-year-old actor, Garfield steps into the void evacuated by Tobey Maguire, the star of the first three films in the franchise which have grossed nearly 2.5 billion dollars worldwide since 2002. Garfield is best known for starring in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and the upcoming film Social Network costarring Justin Timberlake. Recently in this year’s film, he also has a starring role based on the rise of Facebook, “The Social Network.”
In film history, the Spider-Man franchise is one of the most successful and the three previous motion pictures have together grossed more than $2.5 billion in worldwide box office.
In the film industry, Garfield is fast becoming one of the most respected and sought-after young actors. Spanning only five years in a short career, he has already been directed by and starred alongside, some of the greatest names and received a BAFTA for a role that won him international eulogize.

Garfield will immediately begin preparing for the coveted role as Peter Parker.
