A killer whale killed a veteran trainer, Dawn Brancheau On yesterday 24th February, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at SeaWorld’s Shamu Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The shocking incidents occurred in front of numerous spectators who were preparing to watch another show. See the video about Killer Whale Shamu Attacks here.
Paula Gillespie said, “The Incident occurred after a show called “Dine with Shamu, “During the show everything was perfectly fine”. Afterward the trainer was laying down on him and kissing his nose and rubbing him. But suddenly the scene was changed within 5 minutes. The Killer Whale took Brancheau by the upper arm, tossed her around in his mouth and pulled her beneath the water as dozens of tourists looked on in horror. This incident occurred, when she slipped, fell into the tank, was pulled under water by the whale and drowned.
The Killer whale named Tilikum, also known as Tilly has been involved in two previous deaths. The Killer whale weighs approximately 12,000 pounds. Brancheau had worked with killer whales for 17 years. She had more experience with Tilikum than most of the park’s other 28 trainers. Tilikum is the largest killer whale in captivity.
Rose said that mostly these animals are using in entertainment. Whales and dolphins are large, intelligent, long-lived, socially complex predators that often hunt helpfully and are capable of swimming 100 miles in a day.
Biniak Said that “the trainer Dawn Brancheau was explaining different things about the whale and then the was down there walked away from the window, and then Tily (the whale) took off really fast in the tank and he came back, shot up in the air, grabbed the trainer by the waist and started thrashing (her) around. ”
Tilikum killed first trainer in SeaLand of the Pacific in Canada in 1991 after then he was transferred to Orlando in 1992. In 1999, the nude, dead body of a homeless man was discovered on Tilly’s back. Tillikum, a male or bull whale, and is one of eight killer whales there.
Sea World says the trainers have had thousands of safe interactions with Tily and she has more than a decade of killer whale training under her belt.
SeaWorld’s manager, Dan Brown, read the following statement about the incident during a news conference, which was held on yesterday 4:30 p.m. led by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
“It’s with great sadness that I report that one of our most experienced animal trainers drowned in an incident with one of our killer whales this afternoon. We’ve initiated an investigation to determine to the extent possible what occurred. There are no other details to share at this point, but we will make our findings known in due course. I must emphasize that this is an extraordinarily difficult time for the SeaWorld parks and our team members. Nothing is more important than the safety of employees, guests and the animals entrusted to our care. We have never in the history of our parks experienced an incident like this, and all of our standard operating procedures will come under review as part of this investigation. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the trainer and will do everything possible to assist them in this difficult time.”

hey. this is bad :( so sad
I have no doubt that Sea World has already computed how much more money they’ll make by keeping this whale for exhibit. It is all about profit, isn’t it? It’s definitely about political clout, since anyone having a chimpanzee that kills or dog that bites, must give it up to authorities. Not so for Sea World.
I now hate you, Sea World.
So sad. A truly tragic accident. I covered this story as it broke on my show. bit.ly/aZDfdL
i watched this killer whale kills trainer video 2010.
it’s very sad accident. this is very rare accident that killer whale Orca Tilikum attacks & kills seaworld trainer.
this is deadly attack orca “tilikum” kills dawn brancheaue !! so sad :(
KIll them all Seabeast!
Maybe the animal had the impression that the trainer was being attacked by something (which was just her long and flowing hair) and just tried to defend the trainer, his long-time friend, by thrashing her around under water in the hope that the hair (something that water animals, even intelligent ones, are not familiar with) would “release” the trainer.
Anyway SeaWorld should learn something from the bull fighters in Mexico or Spain. When a bull starts attacking a fighter, others join in immediately to distract the bull.
where can we find more pictures of shamu the killer whale?

She will be very muchley missed.. its a tradgic death.. but also an accident. I dont you dont know body know why the whale did this it was a freak accident, I bet the whale loved her and she loved the whale.. Who knows what really happend. Maybe something was wroung with Tilikum(the whale that killed her)….. or maybe Tilikum, was just being a whale… Its in there blood they belong to mother nature. Orcas are sweet, caring and beautiful animals of the sea. Dawn Brancheau(the girl who died) knew what could have happend.. but she loved animals that much that she knew that this could happen, she was happy with animals, she was where she needed to be. She lived her life the fullest and had here one in a million dream, and that was doing the thing she loves best, performing and being with nature. Dawn Brancheau was a great girl I bet. She is in a good place now and is happy. She died by doing the thing she loved.
