The former Nortel Networks Corporation’s piece GSM/GSM-R was offered to interested bidders in the auction block yesterday, 24 November, 2009. Delayed auction of GSM (Global System for Mobile) business got underway in the morning of Tuesday but the announcement of the winner was held in the evening by the company. In an open auction, the global GSM/GSM-R business includes copyrights chiefly used in the GSM business and giving way of non-exclusive licenses of other relevant copyrights. To Sell the division was planned by Nortel last week, but he decided to bump the date to make space for its optical network and carrier Ethernet unit’s auction. Winner of the optical networking auction is Ciena Corp. and for the division it will pay US$769 million. In January, after filing for creditor protection, the former Canadian technology heavyweight, has been selling off its divisions.
