Three times U.S. Champion (2004-2006), Johnny Weir is one of the superstars of figure skating. To represent the US at the 2010 Winter Olympics, he was nominated. He is a part of the US Men’s 2010 Olympic Figure Skating team. Johnny Weir will continue in the Olympic Village as from anti-fur activists, he is apprehensive on “very serious threats” because of some of his costumes.
During the Games, the medal hopeful had planned to stay in a hotel, but it would have been too complicated to assemble enough security. Weir’s decision to stay in the more protected village was an obvious selection, although there are no indications that any of the verbal and written threats from extremists were credible.
In Vancouver, he is right to take extra precautions during his time. There is no reason for Weir to release himself up to the possibility, though the odds of one of these threats really coming to pass are little.
This is not the first time he has come beneath attack from activists. In the past also Weir was hounded for wearing a fur hat in the nationals. When asked why him, Weir said, “I’m just an easy person to pick on because I like fur.”

Weir had done skating in the short program on February 16, 2010. His short program was performed to a piece of music called “I Love You, I Hate You” by Raul di Blasio. After short program of the men’s figure skating competition, Weir stands sixth while Lysacek is in second place.
He sometimes struggles technically and finds it inflexible to constantly land that very important quad, and it has cost him. When he is performing a triple combination, even his triples are at times doubled. This is what makes those in the know recommend that Johnny Weir will not win a medal in the 2010 Olympics.
For being more of a personality than an athlete, Johnny Weir has been criticized. In the recent times, he is in the news when he was threatened by anti-fur activists over a costume choice. He was also a part of a reality show called “Johnny Weir Be Good” that aired in January. He has an interest in costume design besides skating. He has been involved in designing his own costumes including the costumes of other ice skaters.
Fans all over the world love Johnny Weir’s fluid, elegant style. He is an amazing athlete, with mad hops, but he also is the guy who had starred in the documentary “Pop Star on Ice” that featured a scene with him soaking in a tub with a male friend. Johnny is looking ahead to many more years of contending and performing, and hopes to mount to the very top of his sport.
I thought they all did very well. Most of them did their jumps and the foot work was great. It is a lot better than I could ever do.
