Steps to Install Mac OS X

Step 1: Preparation of the new disk

The device is to be connected, whether a “new” hard disk or a flash drive. Now you should boot into Leopard, and launch the Disk Utility from Spotlight. You have to set yourself as the administrator of the PC for you to have privileges. This can be done as follows –

sudo –s

chown 0:0 /Volumes/New

Step 2: Installing DMG

Now, once this is done, you need to mount the Snow Leopard DMG file. Now, the installer window shall pop up. At this stage, you must click at any free space on the window and press the combination of the keys – CMD + Shift + G. This shall cause a small window to appear on the top of the existing window. Here, you need to type “Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/”, and Go.

Now, when the next window appears, we need to locate the package “OSInstall.mpkg” and start the Snow Leopard installation by double-clicking it.

Step 3: Customizing install

You need to go through the options displayed, and select the “New” drive for installation. This may take around 10-20 minutes.

Step 4: Installing the BootLoader

Now, this step shall install the “Chameleon-2-1.0-r431.pkg” by unzipping the Chameleon BootLoader. Now install the “Chameleon v2 Snow Leopard Support.pkg” to the New Drive.

Step 5: Patch DSDT

Now, you need to open the DSDT Patcher from the downloaded Tools. Select the “Darwin/Mac OS X” in Operating System and select the DSPT Patch in Options. After selecting the destination to the New drive, press the Run DSDT Patcher button.

Step 6: Install Kexts i.e. the drivers

For this step, all the Kexts must have been downloaded previously. This should be done according to the compatibility of the system. All the “Kext Files” present, are copied to “/New/Extra/Extensions”. Now you need to copy the Extensions folder in Extra to the desktop, followed by the dragging of the “Kext utility” to it. The “Kext utility” shall repair the permissions and generate Extension.mkext. Now, the Extensions folder is copied back to “/Snow/Extra”.

Step 7: Configuring boot.plist with EFiStudio

Select your video card from the drop down menu after launching EFiStudio. Click “Add device” and some numbers shall appear on in front of you. You need to copy them.

The following XML is to be added to com.apple.boot.plist in /New/Extra.

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280×1024×32 </string>

<key>device-properties</key>

<string>–number you got with EFiStudio–</string>

Now, save this and exit, after which you need to place the SMBios.plist into /New/Extra.

Finally, the system is rebooted and made available for you to experience a different taste of technology!
