How to Make your Laptop Run Cooler

All electronic gadgets that are present in today’s world have this universal problem of getting heated if their operation is prolonged. Same is the case with laptops. Although according to its name these are mobile PC’s that can be operated even by placing on your lap, that is the most dangerous thing to do since there have been instances of people actually burning their skin on the thighs.

The main reason why a laptop has more chances of getting heated easily as compared to desktops is because as technologies have developed even more powerful components are crammed into confined spaces of a laptop. Laptop models are getting slimmer and lighter. In an attempt to give excellent performance like that of desktops or even better but with limited space, all the components are essentially packed in tightly. So since these components are closer to each other and the casing of a laptop is narrow there is not much room for the heat to escape. Also with the use of more powerful processors the power required to run the laptop is more thus resulting in excess heating.

No doubt that the manufacturers are aware of this and hence they provide the laptops with fans, heat sinks and air vents. However, sometimes these cooling systems are insufficient in cases of non-stop use or overuse causing overheating which also may be caused by certain defect in the fan.  You need to take these things into consideration and make sure that you undertake regular maintenance of your laptop for its smooth functioning.

The first and foremost thing when your laptop seems to get overheated is for you to check if your laptop fan is working properly and this can be done without having to open the computer. You need to log in to your laptop manufacturer’s website and check if they have a fan diagnosing tool. If not, look for it on the web and you will find one for sure.

Abstain from placing your laptops on pillows, cushions, sofas, beds, blankets or even your lap since it totally cuts of the air flow. Make sure you regularly clean the air vents near the front of the case and the ones at the back. Remove any dust or other particles that block these vents thus obstructing air flow.

You can use a slightly damp cloth or use a machine that releases compressed air. There are also certain external accessories that can be used to enhance free air flow. Using a stand between the laptop base and the surface top of where you plan to work on is a good idea to encourage natural cooling for your laptop.

Inexpensive articles like a book, four bottle caps or four egg sockets can be placed on the four corners of your laptop. Although if you want to ensure uninterrupted and top class performance with guaranteed comfort you can go for buying ready-made stands or laptop coolers that are available in the market.

These stands can be in the form of flat aluminum stands with short legs that helps absorb all the heat off the laptop, a laptop mat or pad that have insulating properties, thick pads with external fans, a small slatted camping table made up of aluminum with adjustable legs and so on.
