Wouldn’t it be nice if you are able to view the person with whom you are talking in person? Well the International Business Machines’ Almaden Laboratory thinks that in the coming five years or to be precise by 2015 the world will see smartphones that will be able to project a 3D holographic image of the person with whom they are talking. This means that when you call a person from your phone you will be able to see him or her in holographic 3dmage or almost like a 3D cloud. Every year the company asks its 3000 researchers to predict technology that they think would come true in the next five years. This time around the Almaden research centre has predicted this along with four other pretty shocking predictions.
Along with the above prediction the researchers have even predicted that the mobile phone and PC’s will be able to be powered by kinetic energy. Now that would be something because that would mean that you can charge your electronic devices by just a jerk or just a shake. However, the holographic mobile conversations are on top of the list of predictions.
Discern analyst Paul Saffo said that the company the predictions can be long term goals of the company and as of present there are no present goals set by the company. He said that the in an era where pessimistic approach can take a company downwards, any research like this in technology can add a lot of optimism in the field. HE added that the amount of investment that IBM puts into research it is clearly visible that the company is putting its best efforts towards the growth in technology.
Considering these predictions as mere words spoken out in public for easy response and public attention would not be sensible with the kind of reputation that the IBM research team has it probably would be underestimating their potential. The company puts a lot of effort in its research work and these predictions may just be the end results of the ongoing projects at IBM labs. The other pretty amazing prediction is the battery that will be charged by air. They claim that five years hence the batteries will be made of such metals which will be so dense that they will get charged by just coming in contact with air and hence atleast last ten times longer that what they do now.
Also it is being predicted that virtual gaming environment like Second life will become extensively popular. A virtual game is one in which the users interact with the computer in a 3D environment using simple geometric shapes. The predictions for the previous years about mobile phones being used as wallets and money managers are all coming true thanks to the smartphone revolution going around the world. However the prediction about instantaneous speech translation becoming the norm has not come true yet.
