Volvo to launch S60 sedan in India – Price & Specs

Super luxury sedan S60 will be launched in February 2011 in the Indian market by Volvo. Price of Volvo S60 sedan will be around Rs. 30 Lakh. The car will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU) to the country that will attract a huge 110% excise duty. Previous to it, new mid-size SUV XC60 was launched by the company in the month of November 2010. The muscular S60 is similar to the XC60 in the design flair such as the aggressive fascia, high waistline, and coupe like roof line.

The design of the car is refreshing change from the European car-makers’ Germanic designs. It is expected that the all new S60 will come with 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine similar to the crossover Volvo XC60. A maximum power output of 205bhp will be produced by the powerful engine of the sedan. According to the Paul de Voijs, Volvo Car India managing director, if the sale of Volvo Car in India reaches 2,000 units, company would set up an assembly facility in India.

The all-new Volvo S60 comes with improved safety features like Pedestrian Detection and monitors traffic around the car to prevent low speed rear-end collisions and any unexpected accidents with oncoming pedestrians. The interior of the car will also be unique, especially the floating center console, with a trademark Volvo feature. A fantastic trademark Volvo grille and sculptured headlamps with LED bulbs will be featured in the new Volvo S60.

Volvo S60 will compete with Mercedes Benz C-Class, BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 in the country. 420 Nm of maximum torque at 1,500-3,250 rpm will be produced by its powerful 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine. Other specifications and price of Volvo S60 are not disclosed yet.
